The annual Australian Down Under Charity Ball is a prestigious event on Moscow’s social calendar and much anticipated evening; hosted by the Russian-Australian Business Association in conjunction with the Australian Cultural Centre in Moscow.

The third annual Down Under Ball was held in Moscow on 5 April 2014 at the Renaissance Monarch Hotel.

The extraordinary evening played host to accomplished business leaders, honored heads of the Australian, New Zealand and Irish embassies in Moscow, as well as celebrity guest Alexei Nemov – a 4-time Olympic gymnastics champion.

The evening program was packed with live Australian music, live performance of an Aboriginal didgeridoo, and a photographic exhibition. Guests enjoyed succulent Australian meat and wine, indulged cigars in the cigar room and actively participated in a charity raffle and auction vying for some outstanding prizes.

The auction was quite impressive, spurred on by Gabe’s lively manner as the MC/Auctioneer of the evening. A large Aboriginal painting was sold for 70,000 rubles, a large soft toy kangaroo for 50,000 rubles and for the main lot of the auction - a 1 week vacation in a ski chalet for 8 people in Vail Colorado sold for 500,000 rubles.

The evening raised over $100,000 for the Big Brother Big Sister charity.

All proceeds went to support the Big Brothers Big Sisters - a wonderful charity, which assists and mentors at-risk children and adolescents.
