August 30th 2014, the Australian Cultural Centre took part in the national eco clean-up day, which was organized by ‘Green Russia’ ecological movement.
All activities took place at the Setun park grounds and the adjoining bank of the Setun River in the west of Moscow.
The Australian Cultural Center assisted "Green Russia" by organizing the cultural program of the day, as well as, rallying a group of expats to help clean the territory.
The event officially kicked off at 11:30 and finished at 13.00 with a hot lunch, which was provided by the Ministry of Emergency Services (EMERCOM). The remainder of the day was filled with an entertaining music program and workshops for kids.
The event was supported by the Ministry of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Culture, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, the Ministry of Emergency Services and the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation.
However, the greatest support to the clean up day was given by the largest Russian companies: Russian Rail, Gazprom, Rostelecom, X-5Retail Group, Metalloinvest, Rusal and Sberbank of Russia.
In just a few short hours we helped our environment by collecting 1.8 tons of litter.
Over five million people from 84 regions across Russia participated in this huge ecological event.
Regardless of the intermittent drizzle, it was a great family oriented affair that allowed everyone to do their bit for the planet and set a good example for the younger generation!
